It begins with commitment

Today I ran a 5k. This is not monumental as I have run at least 5 of them as well as a 10k already, but today was different. I could not control my tears as my feet pounded the pavement this morning. I am sure I looked like some sort of lunatic crying and running the streets. I couldn't stop crying. I cried because when this year started I could not run a yard, let alone a mile, now I can run 7 miles! This began with a commitment that I made to me. I committed to do it.

The journey was not easy, as I started on January 4, 2014 in the middle of winter. I am in the Midwest and this was a terrible winter! I am extremely thankful for the support that I had on this journey. If not for my aunt Bebe committing to get out there with me even though she is an avid runner, and not for the support of the amazing ladies of Black Girls Run! Columbus I really don't think I would have made it. Running was never something that I wanted to do, but the ladies supported, encouraged, challenged and walked the walk with me and I did it! Sending a special thank you to Lori, Chasity, Renee and the ladies of 4th Edition.

My running journey sparked something in me. I felt as if it worked for me it could work for others. This is how The Next 100 was born! God has given me the gift to motivate, inspire and move, with this project I am doing just that. The Next 100 is a community of 100 women working together to achieve 100 goals in 100 days.

I have learned that goals have to be specific, measurable and that they must have a completion date. The Next 100 has that covered. I applaud the ladies who have committed to themselves and I look forward to working with each and everyone to reach her personal goal over The Next 100 days!

This morning I cried, but not sad tears, tears of joy. I cried for you. I am extremely happy that God saw it fit to put me in the lives of women and help them to be the best that they can be. We matter.
